Welcome to the Fairlight Players

Like all amateur dramatic groups, our normal activities have been severely impacted by the Coronavirus outbreak and the consequent restrictions on public gatherings. We very much look forward to the day when we will be able to resume something like a normal programme of events.

In the meantime, we will endeavour to keep members and supporters interested and engaged and, to that end, we are currently rehearsing two radio plays for broadcast at some time during November.

Somebody Else's Smile, was originally broadcast on the BBC in 1978, and we have been exceptionally fortunate to be given permission by the writer, Elizabeth Kay, to bring this wonderful script back to life. The plot revolves around the residents of a geriatric home, and the efforts of the staff to give a good impression to potential philanthropists whilst simultaneously attempting to rehearse the residents for an in-house production of "The Wizard of Oz."

Sacred Heart, by Duncan Turner, is set in a Catholic boarding school for boys. Turmoil ensues when one student decides to turn his back on Catholicism, and instead follow the religion of the ancient Aztecs, convincing several of his classmates to do likewise. The staff are not convinced that the customs and rituals associated with this belief system are exactly in keeping with the ethos of the school.

These two plays will be broadcast at no charge to members and supporters, but we would encourage those who have not yet renewed their membership to do so. This is the best way at present that you can continue to support the Fairlight Players and help to ensure that, when the pandemic is over, we can continue to serve our wonderful local community in the way that we done now for over 70 years.

Please download this leaflet for full details about how you can renew your membership online.

In the meantime, please continue to explore this site, and especially the fascinating archive section - possibly the most comprehensive online archive of any am-dram company in the country - or even the world!
